Dhaka, Aug 18 (bdnews24.com) – Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday as the Shawal moon was not sighted on Saturday.

The National Moon Sighting Committee that sat in the evening did not find any evidence of rise of the crescent moon across the country marking the beginning of the month of Shawal.

"So, Sunday will be the 30th day that completes the month of Ramadan, and Monday will be the Eid day," State Minister for Religious Affairs Shahjahan Miah told bdnews24.com on Saturday after the meeting.

The minister, also the committee chief, presided over the meeting held at the Islamic Foundation's conference room in the national mosque Baitul Mukarram in the evening.

He greeted the people ahead of the biggest religious festival of the Muslims all around the world.

Arab states including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and the United Arab Emirates have already announced to celebrate the Eid on Sunday.
